Privacy Policy — ThereYet?

Last updated: 26 June 2026

In short: ThereYet? keeps your data on your device. It has no user accounts and no server we control, it never sells your data, and it uses no advertising or analytics. Your location is used on your device to alert you when you near a saved place. A few features (map, place search, expanding shared map links) contact third‑party services, described below.

This Privacy Policy explains how the ThereYet? mobile application (package de.schladebeck.proximity, the “App”) handles information. It applies to the App only, not to any website that merely hosts this page.

Who is responsible

The App is provided by Dennis Schladebeck (“we”, “us”). For privacy questions, contact: thereyet@schladebeck.de.

What information the App uses

Location data

The App uses your device’s precise location, including in the background (while the App is closed or the screen is off), to measure your distance to the destinations you save and to trigger an alarm when you arrive or are about to arrive. Your location is processed on your device. We do not operate a server and we never receive, store, or transmit your location to ourselves.

Your destinations and settings

The places you add and your preferences (alarm sounds, radius, units, theme, etc.) are stored only in local storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere.

Why the App needs background location

The core purpose of ThereYet? is to alert you when you approach a place even when you are not actively using the App — for example, to wake you before your stop. Detecting that in the background requires the “Allow all the time” location permission and the device’s geofencing capability. You can deny or revoke this in your system settings at any time; the App will then only be able to alert you while it is open in the foreground. The App does not use background location for any purpose other than your own proximity alarms.

Third‑party services

Data leaves your device only to provide the following features, and only the minimum needed for each. These providers process the request under their own privacy policies and may, like any internet service, receive your IP address:

ServiceWhen it is contactedWhat it receivesProvider policy
Map tiles (CARTO) When you open the map view The map area being displayed; your IP address carto.com/privacy
Place search (Photon, by Komoot — OpenStreetMap data) When you type in the “search a place” box Your search text and an approximate location used to rank results; your IP address komoot.com/privacy
Google Maps link expansion (Google) Only when you add a place by sharing or pasting a Google Maps link The shared link, so it can be resolved to coordinates; your IP address policies.google.com/privacy

The App contains no advertising, analytics, crash‑reporting, or tracking SDKs.

What the App does not do

Permissions the App requests

PermissionWhy
Location (precise & background / “all the time”)Measure distance to destinations and fire proximity alarms, including in the background.
NotificationsShow the arrival alarm and the ongoing tracking notification required by Android.
Foreground service (location, media playback)Keep tracking and the alarm running while the App is in the background.
Run at startup (boot completed)Re‑register your geofences after the device restarts so alarms keep working.
Vibrate & keep awake (wake lock)Vibrate and wake the screen for the alarm.
Ignore battery optimizations (optional)Improve background‑alarm reliability; entirely optional and only requested if you choose it.

Data retention and deletion

Because your destinations and settings live only on your device, you can delete them in the App, by clearing the App’s data in Android settings, or by uninstalling the App — which removes all of it. We hold no copy to delete.

Security

Your data stays on your device, protected by the operating system’s app sandbox. Network requests to the third‑party services above are made over HTTPS.

Children

The App is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights

We are based in Germany, and the EU GDPR applies. Because we do not collect or store your personal data on any server, there is no personal data held by us to access, correct, or erase — your on‑device data is under your control as described above. For data processed by the third‑party services listed, please refer to their privacy policies. You may contact us at any time with questions about this policy.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the revised version at this URL.
